While Habs fans had a break from the NHL on Sunday, the parking lot at the Frontenac Community arena in Godfrey was teeming with ball hockey players and their fans, when close to 70 players battled it out on May 16 for the first place in a fun, fast and furious all-day tournament.
A total of 12 teams played five games each, ending in a sixth game where the final four went head to head.
Organized by Ms. Schall and Hinchinbrooke PS parents Leslie Pickard and Lynn Peters, the tournament was a fundraiser for Ms. Schall’s grade eight graduation trip to Montreal. Students will spend three days touring Old Montreal and various sites including the Science Centre, the Biodome and La Ronde.
The action on Sunday was fast and furious and just one scraped knee needed bandaging. By the end of the day a total of $1400 was raised for the trip. The Gemmill Giants and the Kempe Knockers took first place in their divisions in two very exciting final games.
Ms. Schall wishes to thank all of the participants, the many parents who volunteered their time and Canadian Tire Cataraqui, L.D. Power Sports and Reid’s Foodland for their generous donations. So much fun was had by all that apparently plans are being made to hold a similar event next year.
