Don Nielsen, Janet Barr and Mayor Janet Gutowski
On a rainy Saturday in Sharbot Lake a small group of eager shoppers, along with community dignitaries and representatives of Community Living-North Frontenac, gathered at the official opening and ribbon cutting of the Treasure Trunk at its new location in Sharbot Lake.
Mayor Janet Gutowski highlighted the importance of the second-hand store and the various ways in which it serves the community as a source of employment and job training for community members, as well as functioning as an avenue for donors to give back to the local community, and lastly as a place for shoppers to find great deals on gently-used clothing, furniture and house hold items.
Don Nielsen, executive director of Community Living-North Frontenac, attended the opening and said, “This is a big and positive move for the Treasure Trunk since it can offer more space and opportunities for local people in the community. It’s a great community service and meets a lot of different needs for a lot of different people, which is what Community Living-North Frontenac is really all about.”
Janet Barr, the vocational skills instructor with Community Living-North Frontenac, says the new venue will offer training programs for students and other members of the community.
She was overwhelmed with the donations received prior to its opening and mentioned that the store will continue to take donations.
Store hours are Monday - Saturday, 9AM – 3PM, with donations during store hours or after hours at their drop off box. Ongoing will be $3 bag days on Mondays and Wednesdays. For more information, you can call the store at 613-279-2113.
