Central Frontenac Mayor Janet Gutowski was very happy this week.
“I’m really pleased with how the hiring process went for our new CAO, and am happy to announce that Shawn Trepanier will be taking on the position as of September 27.”
Shawn Trepanier is finishing up his tenure as senior administrative officer in the municipality of Whale Cove, which is located in Nunavut about ¾ of the way up the western shore of Hudson’s Bay, 72 kilometres south of Rankin Inlet.
Trepanier was born in Jonquière, Québec, and spent his youth living in many different parts of Canada, as his father was a member of the Armed Forces. As an adult he has maintained an interest in travel, and has visited a number of locations in Europe and the Americas.
He received a Bachelor of Sciences degree from Carleton University and is currently enrolled in a Master of Public Administration Program in Athabasca University, majoring in business administration and human resources.
For the past 15 years, Shawn Trepanier has held a number of administrative positions with Canadian Blood Services, Industry Canada and most recently with the Hamlet of Whale Cove.
He has been a volunteer with the Canadian Red Cross, the Canadian Rangers and with Search and Rescue for Western Nunavut.
“Shawn has a lot of experience in administration, and while he has not worked for an Ontario municipality, he brings a lot of skills to the job in Central Frontenac. He will have a lot to learn about the Ontario Municipal Act, however,” said Janet Gutowski.
Shawn Trepanier has lined up a place to live in Central Frontenac and will be arriving in time for the second Council meeting in September.
In the interim Cathy MacMunn is serving as Chief Administrative Officer, as she has been doing since August 12, when John Duchene retired.
