On Monday, local MPP John Jordan joined the team at RKY Camp to celebrate $46,600 in funding the group received through two grants from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The grants supported the enhancement of the camp’s infrastructure and the strengthening of its capacity to support mental wellness.
“I want to congratulate the staff and management of RKY Camp for their continued dedication to creating a great camping experience for kids from all around the region” said Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston MPP John Jordan. “The provincial funding you’ve received will strengthen your skills and update your rock-climbing wall to deliver an exciting and impactful challenge. This funding is hard-earned and well deserved and, again, my sincere congratulations to the team at RKY Camp.”
Thanks to a $23,600 Resilient Communities Fund grant awarded to them in May 2023, RKY Camp was able to provide Mental Health First Aid and Trauma-Informed Care training to staff and Leadership Participants, enhancing the overall camp experience and ensuring youth feel supported and safe.
An additional $22,800 Capital grant was awarded to RKY in June 2024, which funded the replacement and re-design of its climbing wall to make it more accessible for campers of all skill levels
“RKY Camp has benefited from the Trillium Foundation's support in many ways over the years,” said D’Arcy Munn, Executive Director of RKY Camp. “Since 2023, through the Resilient Communities Fund, we were able to provide Mental Health First Aid certifications to 70 of our leadership participants, Trauma-Informed workshops for 25 staff members, and a Mental Health in the Workplace Certificate for our Camp Director. Additionally, RKY received funding to resurface and improve our climbing wall through an OTF Capital grant. The climbing wall has been in active use this summer.”
