Although a slow start to the gardening season and with precious few glimpses of summer the Villages Beautiful volunteers have been out and about filling planters and flower beds throughout Central Frontenac.

Villages Beautiful is a loosely knit group of volunteers who share a desire to enhance their communities by creating outdoor spaces that we can all enjoy and take pride in. Over the past 25 years Villages Beautiful has developed flower beds, provided bench seating, planted trees and installed and maintained village signs in our Central Frontenac communities.

This year In keeping with a feeling of renewed patriotism throughout the country the focus is a red and white planting scheme and to that end we thank our local businesses for their support.  In Sharbot Lake beautiful geraniums from Goodfellow's flowers now grace Fossey Park and the team at 1010 Garden Centre have gone out of their way to provide advice and  procure all things red and white for planters in the village. The Economic Development Council joined forces with Villages Beautiful this year and has been reaching out to service groups, community organizations and business owners to promote “Let’s Get Blooming”.

To fund our annual gardening and small landscaping projects Villages Beautiful hosts the annual Festival of Trees in late November/early December.  This is a holiday themed event with an array of decorated trees, gift baskets, artwork and more all generously donated and raffled off.  It is an event that draws in the community and is a wonderful introduction to the holiday season.  This Canada Day also hosted the Strawberry Social at the Sharbot Lake Beach so be sure to come check us out while treating yourself to a serving of delicious strawberry shortcake.

As with any volunteer organization we love new recruits!  The commitment is not an onerous one and if you enjoy digging in the dirt (weeding is great therapy!), would like to be involved in some way with the festival or just want to hang out with some really nice people then give us a shout, we’ll happily add you to our mailing list!  Reach out to us at:
