Polar Plunge Rescheduled to March 30th at Sharbot Lake Beach

February 16th seemed like an ideal day for the annual Polar Plunge in Sharbot Lake, which had raised tens of thousands of dollars over the decades for local charitable causes. The Sunday of Family Day weekend is usually a cold day, a good opportunity for people to gather to beat the winter blues, watch brave/crazy friends and neighbours get dressed up and cooled down by submerging in freezing water, and then head to the nearby Legion Hall for a Chili lunch.

For those who remember, this year February 16 was the date of the biggest dump of snow in the last few years, a storm that started on the evening of the 15th and did not let up until late Sunday afternoon on the 16th. The Polar Plunge was postponed well before the snow storm, which was predicted days in advance.

This put organisers, the Central Frontenac District 3 Rec Club and the Sharbot Lake Pickleball Association, into a bit of a pickle.  The next few weeks were not available for a variety of reasons, and the marina location was not available.

But now there is a date, and a location. The date is Sunday, March 30th and the location is Sharbot Lake Beach. Registration starts at 10am in the community room, at the lower level of the Medical Centre. The safety briefing is set for 10:45, and the plunge gets underway at 11am. There will be prizes for best costume, oldest and youngest jumpers.

Coffee, hot chocolate, and treats will be available at the beach.
