A crew of volunteers and local contractors has been hard at work over the last couple of weeks at the Sharbot Lake rink at Oliver Scott Memorial Park (across from Granite Ridge Education Centre.
On Friday, October 27th, a roof truss bee of sorts took place at the site, and in short order sixty-one 60-foot trusses were assembled and the roof structure has been built. All that is left, and it will be no small job, is the roof raising.
The entire effort has been financed through fundraising by the rink committee, which is affiliated with the District 3 Rec Committee of Central Frontenac. The construction is being done by local volunteers, many of whom are local building contractors and trades-persons.
The crew last Friday included: Jones Contracting, Tarasick Carpentry, Kevin Rioux, Clayton Conboy, Spencer Robinson, Craig Middleton, Keith Duggan, Brian Peters, Bill Everett, Dan Meeks, Darren Ferguson, Kurt Jackson and a host of others.
The project, which has been spearheaded by Craig Middleton, will be completed in time for the winter ice season.
