Sharbot Lake, ON – On Wednesday, Rural Frontenac Community Services celebrated the $46,200 Capital fund grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to replace the roof at the Child Centre. Originally built in 1990, the roof was badly in need of replacement after 33 years of service.

“Rural Frontenac Community Services is a hard-working, extremely committed organization whose local initiatives respond to the real needs of rural residents,” said Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston MPP John Jordan. “It’s the work that’s being done beneath this roof that promotes Frontenac’s vision for an inclusive, integrated rural community. Our thanks to the staff and volunteers for providing the heart and soul of the Child Centre as we pitch in to extend the life of this essential building with funding for a much-needed roof.”

The grant allowed Rural Frontenac Community Services to replace the shingles on the roof, repair any damage and replace the eaves to protect the roof from future ice and water damage. Wider eavestroughing with a screen protector was also installed. We are now ready for the next 25 years.

This grant has allowed Rural Frontenac Community Services to extend the life of the Child Centre. The facility is home to a number of key community services, including a licensed childcare centre, EarlyON services in Sharbot Lake, Youth programming in North and Central Frontenac, the Meals-on-Wheels Kitchen, and Frontenac Transportation Services. The building is also used by Maltby Centre Children Mental Health Services and Early Expressions, speech and language program.

"The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be overstated,” said Louise Moody, Executive Director of Rural Frontenac Community Services. “This grant has provided much needed capital funding to maintain our facility so we can continue to provide quality programs in our rural community”.

The mission of Rural Frontenac Community Services is to provide opportunities for our community to live rural life to the fullest. This grant was an investment in our building, ensuring it remains an active community Hub for children, youth and families for years to come.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations celebrates 40 years of grant-making in Ontario and making a lasting impact in communities. Last year, OTF invested over $110M into 1,022 community projects and partnerships. Visit otf.ca to learn more.
