The quaint town of Arden is abuzz with excitement as it celebrates the opening of its two new pickleball courts on the new Arden ice pad.
Arden's community leaders recognized the need for upgraded recreational facilities, prompting the transformation of the traditional icepad into a multi-use pickleball haven.
With the steady rise in pickleball enthusiasts in Arden and surrounding communities, the demand for dedicated playing spaces had never been higher. The ice pad, which remained underutilized for a significant portion of the year, presented an ideal opportunity for adaptation. A collaborative effort between local authorities, businesses, and volunteers turned this vision into reality.
The Kennebec Recreation Committee is proud to announce the creation of new pickleball courts feature two playing surfaces, with room to complete a third court. With ample space for spectators, players can now enjoy an enhanced playing experience and engage in competitive matches.
Central Frontenac Ward 1 Councillor Lynn Klages, said she is “pleased with the transformation of the ice pad into a vibrant pickleball facility. It is an exciting time here in Arden. We are trying to offer a variety of new activities for everyone. Pickleball is so popular and we are thrilled to have courts and equipment at our facility.
“There is also a 9 Hole Bucket Golf course on the Kennebec Center lawn happening a few times a week. The Recreation Committee is also working on getting basketball hoops installed before the end of the summer. Come out and visit us at the Kennebec Sports Centre located beside the Kennebec Hall, 5998 Arden Road in Arden.”
Since the courts have been opened, enthusiasts, ranging from seasoned players to newcomers eager to experience the sport for the first time, have been turning out. Local pickleball players are providing free coaching sessions, encouraging residents of all ages to take up the paddle and embrace this exciting sport.
Local businesses anticipate an influx of visitors looking to explore the sport and enjoy the scenic beauty of Arden.
