As you walk or drive through Sharbot Lake, you may notice blue and green lights throughout the Village and surrounding area. Community Living -North Frontenac has joined many other Community Living agencies across the province to provide a powerful message that people with disabilities have the same desire to become members of service clubs, attend concerts and theatre, participate in religious celebrations, neighbourhood get-togethers, be employed, join volunteers networks and enjoy vacations. We are shining a light on all the possibilities to assist people with a disability and community members in Central and North Frontenac!
2023 is a bit of a milestone year as the COVID pandemic is showing signs of slowing down, this allows Community Living-North Frontenac to resume with May activities while celebrating 47 years of service excellence in the community. Alongside the Shine a Light Campaign, Community Living agencies across the province are hosting different celebrations in May, these celebrations include barbeques, municipal proclamations and flag raisings. On April 25th, Mayor Frances Smith declared May as Community Living Month. During this declaration Mayor Smith thanked all Community Living employees and volunteers for enriching the lives of people with developmental disabilities. We will also be hosting a Spaghetti dinner on May 17th and a BBQ on May 26th. Please come and help us celebrate these events together.
Community Living-North Frontenac has been incorporated since 1976 and provides employment to 38 employees. We have many programs that include Supported Independent Living, Transitional Aged Youth, Employment Services, Out of Home Respite for Children Services, Children Service Residential, Community Participation, Adult Protective Services and Passport Funding (purchase service). Together these services support 11 children and 69 adults in the Central/North Frontenac area.
