AAAAAND … Action!

July 1st marked our first day of the Lions Year 2023-2024, and we were ready for creating our new movie. Some of the same characters, and some new ones all working together to make sure We Serve our Community to the best of our abilities. Everyone from the sets’ builders (our Board of Directors), to the scenes’ actors (our Membership) and of course the Director (our President, Lynn Oborne) stood on guard as our Canadian Flag rose above all and we celebrated Canada Day with Strawberry Social, Bike Race, Farmer’s Market and Toll Road all in one day. And that was just the start.

Every movie has a style, a genre, ours, this year, has been an action-packed Adventure, with a hint of Musical and a reach of Documentary! How so? Well, let us start with the musical. This year we had two new members, Clyde and Amanda, join us, both with musical talents and they, along with a group of wonderful musicians from around the area have been entertaining us all every months in afternoons of Music and Friends. Meanwhile, on the Documentary side, we continued, with our partners, The Cloyne and District Historical Society, with our flagship program of the Speakers’ Forum. And, for our action-packed Adventure, we raced against time as we fundraised through multiple events to make sure we can ready our club to become an Emergency Shelter.

The duration of the movie did not matter to us at all. What did matter is that every effort was made to make sure the movie was a box-office success. A success measured by the 5,355 happy community members attending our 48 events; by the honks that we received as we stood at the side of the road in our funny hats and costumes as we ran our Honk For Hunger Campaign; by the support of the different agencies, neighboring Lions Clubs, regional Lions Clubs, local private and business donors, as well as, the Townships of our Emergency Preparedness Campaign; and last, but not least, by the 3,700 hours of service from the heart that our club members placed into those 5 months collectively.

AAAAAND … IT’S A WRAP on Land O’Lakes Lions Club 5 months of 2023.
