On December 16, 2023 Denbigh Recreation Committee held a successful Stationary Christmas Parade at Heritage Park in Denbigh.

Parade chairperson Ken Chatson said “First of all, our volunteers worked tirelessly in the days leading up to the parade to prepare for this spectacular event.  Thank you to the members of the Addington Highlands Roads department Ward 1 for ensuring that the grounds at Heritage Park were safe and prepped for the event.

“With 13 floats entered for the parade, the event was sure to be a success.”

One new feature of the stationary parade was the Memorial Christmas Tree.  It was a large tree decorated with over 1100 white Christmas lights.  Standing beside the tree was a list of the names of people who previously passed; without those people listed, our community would not be what we are today.

Santa and Mrs. Claus made their arrival on a sleigh loaned to Denbigh Recreation by Ernie Berndt and every child was excited to tell Santa how good they have been this year.

An elaborate 18-minute display of fireworks which was donated by Rosie’s General store and Denbigh Rec was set off by members of the Volunteer Denbigh Fire Department and other community volunteers.

“A special thanks to them for their support,” said Ken Chatson.

Ladies from Denbigh Rec served hamburgers, hotdogs, hot chocolate, coffee and homemade cookies and squares, all of which there was no charge for.

There was an award for People’s Choice best float.

“I’m sure it was a very hard decision as all the floats were beautiful,” said Chatson. The winner as chosen by the people was The Candyland Float created by Bev Tucker, Bonnie Thompson and Erin McBride Hopewell.  They took home $75 cash donated by Denbigh Recreation.

The event was very well attended from all age groups, many locals, and many visitors from outside the local community.

“In closing as chairperson for this year’s stationary parade I would like to thank everyone who entered a float, attended, and all the Denbigh Recreation members who were able to volunteer there time to help make this event a success.  Also thank you to the many community volunteers that consistently help out when needed.   Addington Highlands Township and Pinecrest Marine both gave donations which is much appreciated.  It takes a community working together with many volunteers for events to be successful.  I feel very fortunate to get to work with every volunteer and be a part of such an amazing community.  Thank you everyone and Merry Christmas. “
