The beat of the election drum has been heard by the Lanark Frontenac Lennox and Addington Green Party.

At a riding association meeting on September 2, Jennifer Wheeler, a naturopath with family roots in the maple syrup business in McDonalds Corners, was acclaimed as the federal Green candidate.

Jennifer has had a varied education, obtaining an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering at Queen’s before earning a diploma from the Canadian College of Naturopathic medicine in Toronto. She has a practice at the Perth Family Health Centre and in Kemptville as well.

“I support the Green Party’s goal to have Canada become a world leader in identifying solutions to climate change. Canada needs to shift its attention to a green economy in order to remain globally competitive,” she said in response to her nomination.

With Wheeler being nominated by the Greens, three of the four largest federal parties have candidates in place for LFL&A. Conservative incumbent Scott Reid has been nominated, as has the Liberal candidate from last year’s election, Dave Remington. The NDP have not selected a candidate.

An election is not scheduled for another three years, but in a minority parliament the possibility of an election is never far off.
