Feature Article -April 10, 2008 Spring Fling: Karate ShowdownMelissa Sproule (in white) during her match.
This past Saturday 13 members of Sharbot Lake Karate Club travelled to Smiths Falls to compete in the annual Spring Showdown Tournament hosted by Port Elmsley Karate. For many of the students it was their first tournament. The club did very well in all the divisions they competed in and came home with a total of 23 metals. Following is a list of the medals won in the by the students in their respective divisions:
Kata: 1st - Daniel Powell, Kyle Power. 2nd - Nicholas Power, Cadence Cumpson; 3rd - Rebecca Sproule, Tysen English.
Sparring: 1st - Joel Howes, Daniel Powell; 2nd - David Riddell. 3rd - Kyle Power, Nicholas Power, Tysen English.
Grappling: 1st - David Riddell, Rebecca Sproule. 2nd - Cadence Cumpson, Daniel Powell, Levi Teal, Adam Power, Tysen English; 3rd - Joel Howes, Melissa Sproule, Nicholas Power.
Team Kata: 3rd - Melissa Sproule, Rebbecca Sproule and Cadence Cumpson.
Honourable mention goes to Megan Power and Brianna Sergeant who performed amazing Katas and just missed placing in a medal position.
