Feature Article - July 12, 2007Grants awarded by Mazinaw Community Association
submitted by Marg Axford
Tuesday, July 3 was a busy day at Spencer Field in Cloyne, as the North Addington Soccer Association wrapped up its season with a BBQ and annual awards. Also present were three directors of the Mazinaw Community Association, who had come to present the association's first ever community grants, one to the soccer group and one to the Kaladar Community Club Scamp Camp. The Mazinaw Community Association is an organization run by a board of directors, whose sole aim is to raise funds and supply grants to worthy projects or organizations in the Mazinaw area. The initial capital resulted from two gifts from local residents in 2005, when the association was formed. Since then, additional money has been contributed to the fund, with the result that it became possible this year to award 2 grants of $400 each.As time passes, and the fund grows, the amount of money given each year will increase. It is the intent of the association to make annual grants from the interest earned on the money invested, in order that these invested funds may continue to help the community forever. The directors are very pleased that their first ever grants will enhance the programs being offered to such a large number of area children. Anyone interested in making a contribution to the Mazinaw Fund should contact Ian Brumell at 613.336.2203, or This email address is being protected from spambots.
