The Land O’ Lakes Tourist Association has had a big influx of new members over the last few months. By offering new membership benefits, businesses from nine municipalities have joined LOLTA in a concerted effort to promote the area.
LOLTA is the Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) for the Counties of Frontenac, Lennox & Addington and the Municipality of Tweed. Formed in 1943, this not-for-profit corporation has a volunteer Board of Directors, two full-time staff and four summer students and interns to promote tourism. Through a coordinated effort LOLTA promotes members via 70,000 free visitor maps and 60,000 visitor guides. Travel and tourism shows are a major focus for LOLTA. Members can distribute their own brochures through the organization to nearly a million tradeshow visitors in Canada and the USA.
The new Accessible Wilderness Program funded by OMAFRA RED is especially attractive to members. Member businesses that are wheelchair accessible (or accessible with a support person) can enjoy a 40% rebate on their advertising/marketing costs until 2011. LOLTA welcomes 30 new members, including: Log Cabin Yarns & Music (Northbrook), Pipers Rest B&B (Denbigh), Nomads Rest (Arden), Sharbot Lake Country Inn (Sharbot Lake), Maple Estate Golf (Cloyne), Friends of Salmon River (Kingston), Wintergreen Studios (Yarker), ECO Alternative Energy (Sharbot Lake), Harrowsmith Horse Country (Harrowsmith), Bookstore Café & Antiques (Camden East), and Waterfall Tea Room (Yarker).
