February 2, 2006Fatal shooting at Snug Harbour
Shortly after 6 p.m. on Friday January 27, 2006, South Frontenac Ontario Provincial Police responded to a “911” call from the Snug Harbour resort on Desert Lake, near the entrance to Frontenac Park.
Upon arrival police discovered a female suffering from serious injuries. She was transported to Kingston General Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Deceased is Sarah Canvin (age 41).
David Canvin (age 74), the father of the deceased was arrested without incident at the scene on January 27, and was subsequently charged with murder in the first degree. David Canvin appeared on January 29 and was remanded until Wednesday February 1 at 1:00p.m.
Davdi Canvin is a Professor Emeritus in he department of biology and former Dean of Graduate Studies at Queen’s University. His academic specialty is plant biology. In recent years, Professor Canvin has worked with his daughter on a large garden at the Snug Harbour Resort.
A post mortem examination was conducted on January 29. The cause of death was determined to be a single gunshot wound.
Sarah Canvin;s obituary confirms that she suffered from a mental illness.
The investigation is continuing by officers of the South Frontenac detachment under the direction of Detective Inspector Kathy Rippey, of the Criminal Investigation Branch.
