Feature Article - September 28, 2006Flyers get ready for start of season
by Tammy MacDonald
General Manager Mike MacDonald and his coaching staff had the difficult task of rebuilding the team over the summer. They looked for depth to add an overall balance to the team.
The Flyers don’t have many returning players, but the few that are back have strong leadership. Among them is new captain, Jordan Babcock. He was a strong player last season both on and off the ice.
Also returning upfront is forward Jason Dasilva, who joined the team late last season. He will play a pretty big role along with veterans Jeff Tobin, Kyle Lloyd, Zac Moran, Joe Harvey and Keith Scott.
This season, the Flyers are going with a young defense. New additions like Max DeBernardi and Brooks Taylor should show steady improvement as the season gets underway. Veterans Patrick Palmer and Curtis Abrams will anchor the defense.
As for rookies, there are a number of highly skilled players in the lineup. Among them Mykael Steeves, Brett Doig, James LaRue, Brandon Pixley and Ryan Gilmour, all are quite capable of putting the puck in the net.
The Flyers are also confident with the situation between the pipes. Jason Tuck, the returning goaltender, is quick and confident and Corey Dunbar looks more than capable of carrying part of the load.
The Flyers have strong leadership and the right attitude. The team is full of hungry players looking forward to their first win in the regular season.
The team would like to acknowledge the importance of the community’s support and they hope to see all the fans at North Frontenac Arena to cheer them on, on Sundays at 3:00pm, starting October 1st, 2006 against the Amherstview Jets.
