Notice By-law Updated
The by-law addressing the provision [ie, form, matter and content} of public notice was brought up to date to include changes since 2016, in order to conform to current provincial and municipal legislation. This was largely a ‘housekeeping’ issue.
2024 Capital Budget Summary & Project Cancellations
Two projects from the 2024 budget were cancelled; one was construction of a second floor accessible entrance to the Verona Medical Clinic, ($30,000) which was deemed ‘not a priority at this time‘ and a Radio Communications Study, ($10,000), a proposal ‘to be brought forward in future years‘. These funds will remain in Facilities Reserve and Taxation.
In addition, from the Fleet, Road, and Bridge projects completed in 2024 there was approximately $970,000 in savings which will also remain in their respective reserves. "We have realized close to one million dollars gained, due to good work on the part of our staff," said Mayor Vandewal. Director of Public Services, Kyle Bolton, agreed, thanking staff for their excellent work.
CAO Louise Fragnito said that overall, $1.2 million had been reinvested in Savings, and would facilitate the Township’s long-term planning.
Curbside Waste Collection
Council approved a five year extension to Percy Snider for curbside waste collection at a rate of $120 per household for 2025, effective July 1, 2025.
Purchase of Used Pumper Truck
Council has the opportunity to purchase a used pumper truck for $102,764; this was approved without comment or question.
Expansion of Strong Mayor Powers
Mayor Vandewal seemed somewhat uncomfortable with this topic: "There has been one letter from an individual who states that they are on Council, and support this, but I think this would need to come as a resolution from Council, not one individual." There were no comments from Council.
Touch the Trucks
Mayor Vandewal reminded Council that this event would be taking place at the Point Park in Sydenham May 7th.
