Congratulations to our own Councilor Cindy Knight-Kelsey who is representing our township on the Eastern Ontario Trails Alliance. We love you to pieces!!
Some of our historical folks including Sarah Hale (visual artist) and Reg Peterson (farm equipment) are doing us proud at a historical information sharing session at the South Frontenac Museum this weekend. Folks can b ring their old, unusual and puzzling historical artifacts for evaluation by a large historical team. Is a historical museum in our neck of the woods a possibility or a rumor, and more importantly could our Central Frontenac Township fund such a thing?
Speaking of historical societies, our Kennebec one is hosting a strawberry social and bake sale on Sunday afternoon June 29 from 1:00 - 3:00 at the Kennebec Hall costing $7.00 a serving. This will be yummy in the tummy and I love whip cream- big time!! (I even dream about whip cream!!)
My word, our Henderson United yard sale was a hoot and a holler and best of all it will be offered “second time around” on Sat. June 21 from 8:00 AM to noon- same time, same place, different items, more fun and reduced prices. Come and have a chin wag with us.
This Sunday June 15 Henderson United Church’s Cemetery service will be held on site at the cemetery at 2:00 with chairs provided. Rain will move it inside the church. Special thanks to our grass cutters and to all who are refreshing grave flowers.
We hope that folks will fly the Canadian flag in advance of Canada Day and get our area all spiffed up in red and white for Canada Day. Let’s keep our homeland strong, free and hopeful.
Deepest sympathy to the family of the late Rev. Gervis Black who served in our United Churches a few years back and who was well respected as a true servant of God. He will be remembered for his athletic prowess, inspiring sermons, help, support to one and all. The town of Smith’s Falls flew their flags at half mast in his honour.

Don’t forget Music Night with Jonathan Jones - Thursday, June 19th.
Last Tuesday, the Community Centre SOS outing saw ten brave souls hike the 2 ½ km trail to the Eagle’s Nest near Calabogie. This hike allowed opportunities to view the sights that included lots of purple Lady’s Slippers along the way. The view from the top did not disappoint! Lunch at the Redneck Bistro completed a great day. We are not sure if it was the hike or the lunch that made some of those hikers too tired to join their usual games night. We hope to see them all back for the next Games Night at the Community Centre on Tuesday, June 17th. New players are always welcome. We enjoy a variety of card games and are always willing to try new games if you have a favourite.
Speaking of Lady’s Slippers, the Purdon Conservation area will soon be showcasing their annual display. June is the month to enjoy a stroll along the boardwalk through this unique fen wetland area to enjoy the thousands of orchids. This site is also wheelchair accessible with parking and washrooms available. Check out the website for more detailed information on the prime time for viewing. https://mvc.on.ca/conservation-areas/purdon
It is so lovely to see how lush and green everything looks as you drive around. So many people have such gorgeous flowers in their yards. I want to send special thanks to a lovely lady who shared so many of her plants with me this week. I am looking forward to seeing them grow and I paid it forward by giving some plants to another lady. Actually, she did all the hard work.
