I’ve just read the article in the May 1st edition of Frontenac News regarding the results of the Federal Election in our riding (Liberals Gain in Lanark Frontenac, but Scott Reid Rolls to Victory). I take exception to Scott Reid’s statement, “There are people who are focused on insurance and security and preserving their wealth, those people tend to vote Liberal. Then there are the people who are concerned that they aren’t able to get by, and find that affordability is problematic, and those people tend to vote Conservative.”
This smacks of Polievre’s populist approach which has turned off so many voters and lost him his seat. Like most of my Liberal friends, I voted for Michelle Foxton and supported Mark Carney because I believe in free speech (not cuts to the CBC in favour of Rebel news), social service programs for Canadians that can’t, “work hard so they can buy a beautiful home” because they have been disadvantaged by circumstances beyond their control and need government support, public health care, climate action to save the planet from further damage and intelligent representatives for this country that are not mimicking Trump’s destructive populist views.
Michelle’s hard work in this riding and her interest in helping people from all factions of the riding were very apparent during the campaign. Had she won, she would have rolled up her sleeves to help get things done for all her constituents.
Scott Reid has insulted the 45.5% of his riding that DID NOT vote for him.
Perhaps, like the leader of his party, he needs to re-examine the mood in our riding/ country and take some lessons in diplomacy.
