It was the last weekend in October, my wife and I had the pleasure of taking our three-year-old granddaughter from Verona for a pumpkin-picking wagon ride at the Fruition Berry Farm pumpkin patch north of Kingston.
As a three-year-old, this was an almost new experience for her. It was a mild and sunny day, ideal for enjoying some fall fun.
We rode on a hay wagon pulled by a big tractor; we laughed as we wandered the muddy trail of the corn maze. However, it was the selection of pumpkins that really caught our granddaughter's attention.
Rows and rows of orange beauties of all shapes and sizes were laid before her. She was so excited that it was infectious as she tried to find her perfect pumpkin. There, she ran around the field, touching and lifting the pumpkins until she found the one she liked best.
Her favorite was a medium-sized pumpkin with smooth skin and a sturdy stem. She proudly carried it back to the wagon for the ride back to the car park, where we paid for the pumpkin.
It was a perfect pumpkin patch adventure for all of us. We all enjoyed picking our pumpkins, exploring the farm, and spending quality time together. We can't wait to carve our pumpkin into a Halloween lantern and display it on our porch. We will come back next year for more.
