Throughout most of 2016 and all of 2017 the Northern Frontenac Community Services have sponsored the Community Paramedicine Wellness Program.  On Tuesday March 21, while in attendance for the monthly diners luncheon,  my husband Lorne went for his monthly check. During his checkup it was determined that his heart was suffering from onset A Fib and a very irregular rapid heart beat. He was advised to see his physician immediately, which he did, and in turn was set to Kingston General Hospital, where he received excellent care.

Much has been said about grant and sponsored programs for rural seniors and whether or not they have an impact or are necessary.  Lorne is seen by his Doctor on a regular basis and has always received great care, but this irregularity would not have been detected until his next regular appointment in April. By that time it has been determined that he possibly would have had a stroke or a heart attack. Maybe one or both may not have been fatal, but they certainly would have changed Lorne’s life, and mine as well.

If we are the only family that are the recipient of those “guardian angels in Neon green jackets” than the trial program is a worthwhile one. I seem to think that we are not and will not be the only family.
We would like to thank the Frontenac Paramedic Services, Mike, Roy and Mark and also Northern Frontenac Community Services for having the foresight to provide this program and many other programs for us.
