Cadets get their photo taken with some of the troops
Last Friday students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 stood curbside to wave to three troop buses as they travelled to Trenton from their base in Petawawa, enroute to Afghanistan. The students had prepared banners, wore red and waved Canadian flags to show their support for the young men and women who were to drive by. To the surprise and delight of the students and staff, the buses pulled over and the soldiers disembarked and shook hands and chatted with the students. The soldiers talked with the youngsters for about ten minutes, posing for photos with the kids, including the Cadet Corps. It was an eye-opening experience for all in attendance. “They [soldiers] were so young,” commented one student. “and they are sacrificing everything for us.”
