Feature Article - April 26, 2007SHSEarthDay clean-up
by Zannah Matson
Friday, April 20 was a day to be thankful for. It was warm, sunny, and just generally bursting with a spring feeling in the air. Students at Sydenham High School showed their appreciation by venturing outside for a scheduled community clean-up. After being given gloves and garbage bags, over 20 classes at the school dispersed throughout the town to help the planet, and make the community a cleaner place. Nestled snugly in the school’s environment month, being run by the Respect Committee, the clean-up raised awareness for Earth Day, which took place on the following Sunday. The organizers of the event thought that it was a great opportunity to pitch in for the environment, which has become a popular topic in recent months. They also thought that it served another equally important cause: the Sydenham community is continually supportive of the high school, and this was one of the ways that the students could show how much it all means to them. By the time they were done, the town looked noticeably cleaner, and it’s no surprise, judging by all of the garbage that was hauled back up to the school.
Congratulations to all who participated in this great cause!
