Canada Day in Sharbot Lake

It won’t be long until it’s time to air out the Maple Leaf flags and get ready to celebrate Canada’s birthday.

This year, events in Sharbot Lake will be kicked off as usual with pancake breakfast (7:00-10:00) at the fire hall, but the pancakes will be flying on Wagner Road instead of in the village, as Canada Day will also be the date of the official opening of the new fire hall.

There will be a good opportunity to walk off the pancakes at a historical walk through the village of Sharbot Lake which will begin at the Medical Centre at 10:00.

Other popular events will be returning this year, including the annual parade at noon, starting at the township office (participants are asked to meet at 11:30).

After the parade the Sharbot Lake beach will be the focal point for the rest of the days’ activities.

The perennially popular Mason’s BBQ and Maples Pizza Oven will be open from 12:30 on, but the 39ers Strawberry Social which starts at the same time runs only until the berries run out.

After the opening ceremony at 12:30, some local entertainment will take the stage at 1:00, followed by Heavenly Bound, Clearview (The Matson family band) Country Church and Crossroads.

Kids activites will start up at 12:30 as well; including an Air Castle, pedal boat races (from 1:00) face painting (1:00 – 4:00) kids games hosted by Community Living (1:00 – 4:00) and story telling with Danka Brewer (5:00 - 6:00)

After Crossroads performs their final set of the day at 8:45, dusk will bring what has become Sharbot Lake’s most popular annual event, the fireworks.

The Canada Day Committee is seeking support from individuals and businesses towards the fireworks display. Donations may be mailed to the township office, P.O. Box 89, Sharbot Lake, ON, K0H 2P0
