Sunday’s game against the Picton Pirates was a close one for the Flyers. The Flyers showed up to play on Sunday and it took an exciting shootout to decide the winner!
After a scoreless first period, the Flyers scored first with a powerplay goal by Jordan Somers from Jason Dasilva and Jeff Tobin at 12:25 of the second period. 10 seconds later, Grayson Dorey would score his first of the season from Phil Snable to give the Flyers a 2 goal lead. Picton would score three unanswered goals to take the lead but the Flyers would battle back and tie it up with :26 seconds to go in the second period but Picton would get a powerplay goal with just :12 seconds to go to regain the lead.
The Flyers came out with energy in the third and scored on the powerplay with a goal by George Baird from Max DeBernardi and Evan Jones to tie the game. With just under 3:00 minutes to go the Flyers would take the lead with a goal by Ted Currie from Jason Dasilva and Max DeBernardi. However, with just :44 seconds left in the game Picton would tie it up to take it to overtime.
With several chances for both teams in the overtime period it remained scoreless. So they headed to the shootout! The Flyers goalie, Chris Feniak played a great game and was a big reason why the Flyers made it to the shootout. He stopped the first two shots in the shootout but the third shooter lost control of the puck and it trickled in. A tough way to lose a hard fought game!
The Flyers take to the ice again this Sunday, Dec. 16 VS the Napanee Raiders at 3:00PM. The Flyers are having a Turkey Bowl at the game on Sunday, sponsored by the Frontenac News so bring your non-perishable food items for a chance to win a turkey! COME JOIN THE EXCITEMENT!
