Caterpillar Bid Accepted
Further to last week’s discussion of the Township’s lawyer’s advice re tender procedure, Council reconsidered a motion to accept the low bid for a vibratory roller for the roads department. (The next bid was $1,724.38 higher.) Councillor Robinson repeated his opinion that the Township should boycott the Caterpillar company in support of the London workers who recently lost their jobs. Robinson asked for a recorded vote: the motion passed, with Robinson, Stowe and Vandewal opposed. “I will accept the decision, but I don’t like it,” said Robinson.
Wide Variation in Bridge Inspection RFPs
Council agreed with Mark Segsworth’s recommendation that they accept the proposal of D.M.Wills Associates for the provision of bridge inspection services for the township’s bridges and culverts for 2012, 2013, & 2014 for the combined total of $19,159. “We have used this company many times before, and are satisfied that they understand the scope of the work,” said Segsworth. There was a huge range in the prices of the thirteen RFPs submitted for the job: the highest was $298,148.
New Chief Building Official
Council has appointed Jeremy Neven as Chief Building Official for the Township, to begin March 16. He will replace Alan Revill, who is retiring. Neven has been the Chief Building Official in Central Frontenac for the past year.
