It was a three-layer morning last Saturday, as the Snow Social started up. The Point Park had been transformed into a winter wonderland. Volunteers loaded eager families onto horse-drawn sleighs for a tour of the snowy village, and vendors gathered at the school.
Families and friends gathered at the snow tube hill, where children and adults alike zoomed down the frozen slopes. A sprawling field hosted various Sydenham Lake Canoe Club winter carnival games, Elements outdoor ninja course, and Stocksport target games, ensuring everyone could celebrate winter. Pet owners brought their furry companions along, enjoying the pet-friendly atmosphere that made the day even more special. The local Forest and Nature School offered educational activities and nature-based crafts that sparked curiosity for the children.
Food trucks and stalls offered everything from gourmet mac and cheese (More Smoke) to maple taffy.
There was live music in the heated tent, featuring Lucanus Pell, The Cork Sniffers, Reg Corey, and Plastic Paddy, offering everything from Classic Rock to Celtic Maritime tunes—ensuring every musical taste was catered to!
The highlight of it all was the skating rink on the lake. Families glided across the ice, as the periodic passes by the the Zamboni, ensured a smooth experience for all. During the Bird Walk, a group of excited bird watchers, led by local expert Gaye, set out on a nature walk. As they wandered through the picturesque winter landscape, they were surprised to spot a rare bird, adding an unexpected thrill to their day.
South Frontenac’s Snow Social had truly been a day to remember, bringing warmth and joy to the heart of winter. ■
