After years of anticipation, the South Frontenac Community Services (SFCS) Grace Centre finally completed its extensive expansions, breathing new life into the beloved community hub. The large extension and modernized facilities stood as a testament to the hard work, generosity, and dedication of everyone involved in the project.
Last week, the Centre celebrated the return of its popular monthly Diners Club that had been hosted at various rotating locations since its closure pre-pandemic and during the Grace renovation period. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and joy as 90 community members gathered to enjoy a delicious turkey dinner with all the fixings. The aroma of fresh Perry Farm turkey wafted through the air, mingling with the sounds of laughter, music, and conversation. Jason Silver, a renowned pianist, delighted guests with his festive piano music, creating an atmosphere of joy, song, and nostalgia.
Staff and volunteers, were at the heart of the event, ensuring everything ran smoothly. They greeted guests with warm smiles, served meals with care, and made sure everyone felt welcome. Their dedication to the community was evident in every detail, from the beautifully set tables to the thoughtful menu that catered to everyone's tastes and needs. Door prizes were generously donated by Food Less Traveled as diners eagerly anticipated their ticket number to be called. Raffle tickets were also sold for the final quilt (1 of 4) that had been donated by the Verona Quilters.
As the luncheon progressed, the sense of community and togetherness grew stronger. Old friends reconnected, new friendships blossomed, and the spirit of the Grace Centre shone brightly. The event was more than just a meal; it was a celebration of resilience, unity, and the unwavering support that the Centre provides to its community.
The reopening of the Grace Centre and the successful return of the Diners Club luncheon marked the beginning of a new chapter. Diners Club will continue monthly at the Grace Centre and will continue to be offered at other alternating locations in South Frontenac, monthly (two meals a month). Volunteers are always needed to help support the various programs offered at the Centre.
The next Diners will be on January 16th, serving up Beef Wellington, a side, and dessert at the Grace Centre, 4295 Stage Coach Road, Sydenham. Please call 613-376-6477 ext. 303 to reserve.
