Walking into Storrington Lions Club Hall generates a touch of nostalgia for many people.
Used as a schoolhouse and then expanded to a community hall, the building is weaved into the fabric of Storrington District in South Frontenac Township.
“This building means a lot to our community and our service club,” says Paul Sleeth, President of Storrington Lions Club which acts as steward of the popular landmark. “It has hosted a lot of functions over the past 50 years. Sadly, it’s starting to show its age and we need to renovate a few parts of the building to ensure it remains safe and comfortable for another 50 years.”
Guided by a wish list of renovations and improvements to the hall, club members are asking for the public’s support to install a new sign, insulate the attic, fix the back gate, repair the roof and replace the holding tank with a septic system.
Used for functions such as wedding receptions, celebrations of life, youth dances and special events, the hall is a popular destination when people need to gather. The club is proud of the work it’s already completed such as installing new lights and a furnace, applying fresh paint, and building a new wheelchair accessible front entrance.
“We have more work to do, but our service club is small and can’t afford all of the repairs needed for this aging building,” explains the president. “We’re hoping the community will support our good work by making a financial donation towards some of these important projects. To help, please see our Go Fund Me or Facebook Pages, or call/write our club. We would appreciate the support.”
In other club news, the community is invited to 5th Annual Breakfast with Santa from 8 to 11 am on Saturday, Dec. 7. This fun event is sponsored by the township and includes a delicious meal, face painting, arts & crafts, and a visit with Santa.
The club is also hosting a Holiday Market from 10 am to 3 pm on Saturday, Dec. 14. To learn more about this event or to become a vendor, please contact Marie at 613-449-4744.
