When Hartington Equipment built a new store on Road 38 last year, it sparked a bit of a chain reaction. SMS (Select Manufacturing and Supply) moved to the former Hartington Equipment site from their base in Sydenham.
That freed up the building in Sydenham that many will remember as the long-time base for Fox Plumbing and Heating.
Edgar and Alina Alfaro, a husband-and-wife team who are new to Sydenham, jumped at the opportunity to move their company from Brampton to South Frontenac.
They are moving E&A Services, which combines two streams of services. The first is a one stop shop for renovations and new construction, including: kitchens, bathrooms, floors, painting, driveways, and more. The second is a financial management service that focusses on personal and family finances.
Edgar plans to make use of the network of contractors, and an architect from the Brampton area, to start, and then develop connections with local contractors as his business grows.
“Our business is all about helping people obtain their goals, whether that is a new house, renovations, landscaping, or finances,” he said.
The couple do not plan to use the entire space right away. They will be storing tools and other inventory in the building, as well as using it for office space.
Their initial experience in Sydenham came when they were visiting friends near Verona and they took a day trip to Sydenham.
“We fell in love with Sydenham right away,” said Alina, “it has everything, including space.”
They bought a house in the hamlet, originally as a seasonal property, but the idea of moving permanently to Sydenham to raise their daughters, Edaly and Erianne, in combination with the building becoming available, made them decide to relocate. They plan to be fully settled in time for the beginning of school next September.
