Battersea/Storrington

(Just because you write the column doesn’t mean you get away without a birthday message! Happiest of birthdays to you, Mom! Love from your family.)

What has to be broken before you can use it? Well an egg, of course!

Happy 1st birthday Miss Madeline! She stole the show from bride-to-be Auntie Michelle at the wedding shower this past Sunday! An April 16th kindred spirit.

On Saturday, April 20, don't forget The Transition Storrington plant swap from 12-2pm at Gerald Ball Park in Sunbury.  This is not a sale, but a swap and trade of any of your perennials. A wonderful opportunity to share your favourite plants, pick up some new ones and beautify both your gardens and your neighbours! The bees will thank you!

Then on Sunday, April 21, get your pop cans to the Storrington Lion's Hall any time between 12:30-2:30. FILL THAT BIN! This easy trash into treasure initiative supports the Lion's Foundation Canada Guide Dog program!

On Friday, April 26, the monthly Battersea United Church food bank collection will be again at the Storrington Lion's Hall from 1-5. Did you know that the Monday immediately following the food drive, the food is distributed to those who need a hand up? Did you know that the food bank is available to anyone in our community? If you, your family, a friend or neighbour needs some support, please contact Rev. Heather at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or at 613-353-2453. This is absolutely confidential.  As your green thumbs are getting itchy and you are getting your gardens ready, this is the perfect time to think about "grow-a-row" for the food bank!! Fresh home-grown produce would be a wonderful and welcome addition!

Check back here over the next couple of weeks to find out about Back to Health's amazing 1 year anniversary event on May 5th!

Storrington Stinger News... is anyone in the community able to help coach football/soccer? If so, please contact Ms. Domingo at 613-353-2868. They will appreciate your help!

Deepest sympathy to the family of the late Shelly Ann (Forcier) Lloyd whom many recall as the greeter at the farm, past cook at the Chinese restaurant in Cloyne and server at Sniders Restaurant. She will be sadly missed. Also sympathy to the family of the late Parky Parkinson, a much loved business man of our area who died at Pine Meadow Nursing Home. Closer to home we sadly grieve Ellen Detlor, spouse of Miles Detlor who is spouses nephew and daughter-in-law to Jessie Gurnsey-Detlor-Sajevec.

Our Harlowe friends host a fiddlers bash this third Sat of the month (April 20) at the Harlowe Hall in beautiful downtown Harlowe from 1- 5 and it’s also a blast- Yahoo!! Musicians $2.00; public $5.00 and food is available to purchase on site.

Sorry I got the incorrect date for the movie night in last week’s column. It’s in fact- tomorrow Friday April 19 at the Kennebec Hall, hosted by Kennebec Recreation with the doors open at 5:30. Sorry for my incorrect reporting and the extra work involved for the Township and organizers.

Amnesty dump days at the Mountain Grove site are being organized so watch the paper for the dates and the procedures. It’s so wonderful that folks are sprucing up yards, vacant lots and picking up trash from the road sides.

Sydenham
by Karen Brawley

As the week wraps up and it was National Volunteer Week, so all those who donate some of their time to help in any way give yourself a huge pat on the back, you’re awesome and your help means a ton.

It’s a sure sign of summer in our future, as you head into our village, the smell of fresh cut fries cooking permeates the air. Welcome back, Syd’s Snack Shack. Hoping your winter went well. It’s so awesome we have so many dining choices in our small village, from fresh cut fries, to amazing fried chicken at our local Foodland, to baked goods down in the village and can’t forget our many options for ice cream, you scream, as summer approaches, we all scream for ice cream.

Hey guys. Our foodbank appreciated us so much with the peanut butter challenge, as they transition to their brand-new space in The Grace Centre. Let’s challenge ourselves to fill some more shelves - they could use some jam to go with all that peanut butter. So when you see some donation events out and about in our community why not jam it up and spread some love. Trousdale’s Foodland has a donation bin at the store exit which you can always drop your donation in, but even better, stop in and see the amazing folks at our local foodbank and maybe even get a tour of the new facility. Your donations can always be dropped outside Monday to Friday from 8-3 and the crew will check regularly to bring inside.
