Arden
by Wanda Harrison

Thank you, Jonas Bonnetta, for the lovely article on Ken Lee. You hit all of the many wonderful things about Ken that all loved. I know, as a mature resident, he was so kind! On a regular basis he helped, and most times, climbed those steps to the recycling bin for us, so we could still do the right thing, without getting hurt. So, thank you Ken. You will be missed!!!

The Arden United Church will continue coffee hour Thursday morning and Bible study on Wednesday evening.

Please remember the Pot Luck Luncheon, after service, at the United Church. If you can bring something to share, great,. If not, just come out. Everyone is welcome.

As I wrote last week, the events are being added almost daily, for participation in Heritage Weekend. The Kennebec Lake Association is now officially on board, holding their 12th Annual Winter Fun Day, Saturday, February 17. All events remain the same, skating, hockey, ice fishing, along with other winter activities. The only the changed this year is the location. All events will begin at 11am at Springwood Cottages, 1018 Blue Heron Ridge.

On Friday, February 16 there will be a movie night at the Kennebec Community Centre, with the show starting at 7pm. The film featured is Migration. Everyone is welcome.

The second Adult Game Night will be held Friday, February 9 with a 7:30pm start at the Kennebec Community Centre. There will be lots of tables and numerous games. Do you have a game you like and are willing to share? Bring it along. Light refreshments will be available.

It’s great to see most outdoor ice rinks are now open. Arden’s rink is supervised Monday to Friday 5pm to 9pm and Saturday and Sunday 12pm to 9pm. All of this, of course, is weather permitting. Check out FB pages for ice conditions on all of the rinks.

Godfrey
Kelli McRobert

Thank you to Noel Freeman for the lovely maple butter left on my doorstep. It is yummy and I can see why people offer to be your 'taste testers'.

At the time of this note, Betty the Bernese Mountain dog is still missing from Ball Road/Hwy 38 in the Godfrey area. Please keep an eye out and check all outbuildings.

A reminder to clear a pathway, if you can, for the local propane delivery people. They greatly appreciate a clear/safe pathway to your tanks etc...

Happy belated birthday to Dr. Leslie Reade, and best wishes to the following January babies:

Alana Way (nice seeing you at Snow Day!), Erin Jessome, Laurie Swinton, Jean Jones (RIP, would have been 89), Ken Deroche and Jill Jackson.

The next budget meeting for Central Frontenac is Monday, January 29th at 9am at OSO Hall or you can watch it on YouTube. You can find the agenda online.

The rink in Sharbot Lake is now open and ready!  The canteen is open for limited hours.

Congratulations to Nicholas Grona who has been named an assistant captain for the Frontenac Phantoms.

"This A is well deserved and was a unanimous choice from all his teammates. A genuinely good human, who takes the time to ask how you’re doing, and even knows your family’s names. On the ice, Grons has a wicked shot, plays a full 200-foot game, and loves to catch people with their heads down. This Sasky boy plays hockey the old-fashioned way, not soft."

Congrats Nic, we’re lucky to have you!" #forthephans

Henderson

We’re all looking forward to the Heritage Festival weekend on Feb. 16, 17, 18 with so many wonderful events planned.

Our Harlowe Hall is the place to go for good music and fantastic food- having recently offered a musical bash last weekend. If you missed that, then this Sat. Jan 27 bop on over to Harlowe Hall for an open mic from 1 - 5. Public $5.00 Entertainers $2.00 and there is yummy food available to purchase.

This Sunday, Jan. 28, Arden United Church offers a combined worship at 10am followed by a pot-luck lunch.

Our sister church, Land O’Lakes Emmanuel United Church in Northbrook, lovingly requests that donations to their Little Church Thrift Store be suspended during the winter months when the store is closed down. There is no storage room and it’s too cold to work at the building and to heat it in winter. Please wait until the spring when they re-open and we can all resume shopping again and hanging out with the friendly folks - can’t wait!

We enjoyed a swell visit with fellow reporter and friend Pearl Killingbeck at Moira Place in Tweed, sharing memories of the good old days. Pearl asked to be remembered to everyone. We love you to pieces, Pearl - and hope that in the spring an Elvis concert might happen at your facility and we can get “all shook up!”.

As I write, the cold is moving out.  We stayed warm as we went through a lot of wood.  I hope everyone stayed warm enough.  I walk with the dog in the morning but during that cold sometimes we made shorter walks and missed two days.  Brrr.

Don is feeling very blessed to live in such a kind community! Good luck with the new improved  knee, Don, and thank you for sharing!
