Two recent incidents in Arden have left folks a little more cautious. Firstly, a cement flower pot, part of a set, donated to the Arden sign area by the Peterson family, in memory of their parents disappeared. Secondly, a foldable picnic table on a private beach, on Garrison Lake, was removed. If you are reading this article and know about either incident, please see to it that these items are returned to the owners, without explanations.

Coffee hours continues at the Arden Church, 10am Thursdays, as does Bible study, Wednesday at 7pm. The last pop-up vendors sale, will take place, September 10, 10am to 2pm, at Amgela Deline’s place. Arden’s Stewards meeting will be held on September 11, at 7pm, and Mountain Grove’s will be September 12, at 7pm.

I hope everyone has been watching the progress being made on the new building at the Community Centre, adjacent to the Rink. This building is the last phase of a project beginning in 2019, by the Kennebec Rec. Committee. The vison was to update this area so that both youth and adults could use a 4-season facility. Donations are still being accepted. A big thank you is being extended to all the volunteers.

Our Pine Meadow people honoured Eric and Muriel Wagar’s recent wedding anniversary. Congratulations! Recently, the Pine Meadow breakfast club adored their patio meal that included fresh to order eggs just the way you like, fresh toast, home fries and sausage, and of course the ever famous “cowboy coffee” (as the residents call it ). Then this past week they cruised to Hidden Goldmine Bakery in Madoc for some yummy in the tummy treats.

Flags flew at half mast to honour the late John Bolton who died just after his 85th birthday. John will be remembered for his 28 years in the hotel business in Northbrook, service as fire chief to the Kaladar Barrie Fire Department, school bus driving, love of family.

Great to see that Spill the Beans in Northbrook is back up and running again after a short holiday pause. Glad you folks are back!!

Through the Roof Ministries in Flinton recently offered a free movie, “Overcomer” and small popcorn to the delight of many folks.

This Sat. Sept. 2nd our Lions Club of Land O’Lakes will feature an auction at 2 following their weekly farmers market at the Lions Community Hall (12328 Hwy #41 Northbrook) and it’s in aid of the Emergency Shelter Campaign. I hear there’s something for everyone, including fishing charter, weekend cottage, golf membership, tools, home decor, seasonal items (lounge chairs, coolers, dining gift certificates), gas certificates, gift baskets and more.

The new Kennebec Sports Centre in Arden is progressing fabulously with thanks to all volunteers and workers. Set aside October 21 for the Grand Opening that will feature pickle ball, basketball, bucket golf, bouncy castles, fish pond, corn hole, face painting, tattoos, and much more! Volunteers are still needed along with donations for door prizes, so please give all of this a ponder. I might add that this date is the same date as our Henderson Charitable Vendor Bash, but we can all support one another and attend both events. We are hoping that folks will make a big day of all the local events and organize family reunions for that weekend so we can visit up a storm and help out all of our communities. Also, our Vendors Bash will feature special music by the one and only Jim MacPherson of Sharbot Lake- with an opportunity for an open mic, so bring your lawn chair and boogie up a storm!!

The Harlowe Open Mic “rocked” with yummy food, music, prancing dancing, tunes, and guests from as far away as Myrtle Beach celebrating their honeymoon.

Alice came to visit on Tuesday but I do not have a lot of news to share from my hospital bed. I want to send get well wishes to Pat Sargeant who is just down the hall from me with an injured foot. The farm is sold and she and Earl will be moving into Carolina Court.

I heard there was a nice gathering to honour Sheila on her special birthday which included a great meal prepared by Chef Bob. Happy belated birthday Sheila and I hope you have a good year. And get well wishes to your sister.

Janet Greenley popped in for a visit and brought me a gorgeous bouquet of gladioli from Bev and Murray. They are so appreciated. The flowers light up my room and brighten my days. Thank you so much, that was so very thoughtful for you to remember how much I like glads.

My arm and shoulder are so very sore that it is very hard to do my therapy so I guess they are sending me for another CT scan to check me out again. The nurses are taking great care of me.

Harriet and Elaine also were in for a visit and brought me some spaghetti and rice pudding. So many friends and family drop in for a visit, it is hard to keep track.

Thank you to my family and friends for all you are doing for me.

Happy 50th wedding anniversary to Ray and Sylvia Lynch.

I won’t be able to join my friends this year when they go to Northbrook on September 8th to join the 2nd Annual Walk for Alzheimers at the Pine Meadow Nursing Home. I had so much fun at the first one (before covid) with Harriet and Alice and Erma. We laughed all the way around the block. They have music and BBQ and are adding a bake sale this year. Everyone welcome. Call Pam at 613-827-6700 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

We attended a wonderful concert at Snow Road last Thursday, featuring singer/songwriter and fiddler extraordinaire Wade Foster and singer/songwriter/guitarist Jeff Callery.  These talented artists accompanied each other as they took turns leading.  My favorite song of the evening was a tune written by Wade called Home.  It was so beautiful that it had me in tears.  The next concert will feature 3 guitarists from Ottawa.

The Community Cafe returns after the summer off.  On Wed. Sept 6 from 11 to 1:30 the Canadian Frailty Network will present tips to avoid frailty, how to track your health goals and to find local health programs and services.  Snacks and social will follow.  It is a free event for seniors ages 60+.  All are welcome.

Diane Lake would like us to remind Sharbot Lake High School staff, students and guests, that there is a 75th Reunion on Sept. 16 from 1 to 5.  There is no registration required, no fee, just come and enjoy.  It will be held in the new building on the site.

Sincere sympathy to the family of the late Mike Price - taken way too quickly - thinking of the family at this difficult time.

Sorry in last week's column it should have read 64th Wedding Anniversary to Eric and Muriel Wagar - my apologies.

All you can eat breakfast sponsored by the Lions Club will be held on September 23rd.

Family and community rallied around to support the Whan family at the ball tournament on Friday and Saturday.  Thank you to Missy and gang for organizing such a great event and to anyone and everyone that helped in one way or the other to support this great family.  Wow, there was some great ball being played with the finals coming down to Kurtis Jackson's team against Missy Thompson's team with Missy's team pulling ahead for the win.

Meanwhile in Harrowsmith, family and friends from near and far were rallying around the Green and Young family for the B & B Memorial Car Show!  What a great event - each year it keeps getting bigger and better (if that is even possible).  Thank you to both families for organizing this event and to everyone for supporting them and the South and Central Frontenac Fire Departments and the Food Bank!

Hope all who had attended Sydenham High School got to the 150th anniversary on the weekend.  What a milestone and still standing strong!  For those who went to Sharbot Lake High School their reunion will be on Sept 16th at the replacement school Granite Ridge.

The sky above Parham was beautifully lit up as fireworks from the Fox Household were carefully set off.  Words cannot describe how truly amazing they were as the neighbourhood all commented on this.  Thank you.

Baseball season is winding down now. Big thank you to all coaches, umpires, and the committee members for so many hours of time, dedication and commitment and love of the game went into making this a truly great season.  Hope all players got to have fun.  The Junior Men are the last of the teams to finish off with their tournament being held earlier this week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in Battersea.   Keep an eye out for meeting to recap the season, if you are interested in joining the executive committee, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and express your interest.  We are always looking for help!
