Congratulations to Sarah Rafferty and Brandon Feijo on their weekend nuptials!  Also to Joanne Bird and James May on their weekend wedding.

Condolences to Christine Lavallee on the recent passing of her father. I have fond memories of sharing a chat with him outside on the patio with your mom!

Welcome to our newest residents, Bethany and Adam, who are currently renovating in the hopes of moving in September to our little community!

Nice work to Blake Summers on his fencing project. Nice to see the old Campbell farm coming back to life one project at a time!

If you get a chance, pop over to Cole Lake FM Church, to take a selfie with the hay cowboy and roped calf!  They are getting ready for Vacation Bible Study school coming up this month!  Very creative and fun way to advertise! Well done.

A reminder to everyone to slow down on dirt roadways as you head to your destinations. There are quite a few animals that roam our streets, and we also have small children playing outside in this rural community.

To the group that left their fast food containers along White Lake Road, SHAME ON YOU. How hard it is to take it with you or pop it in a bin when near a gas station?

We are still holding our breath as we await the construction of new pickleball/tennis courts at Glendower/Bedford Hall! We have been told by the end of August... Fingers crossed.

Congratulations to South Frontenac Fire, Station 8, on moving into their new location on Battersea Road, the building is beautiful!

Henderson

Special thanks to our Township who are refreshing our Henderson hall with a super duper new interior paint job. It will look wonderful for our big Oct. 21 Vendor Bash held at our hall from 10- 2 with over 40 vendors on site, bake sale, amazing prize table and it’s all in aid of Henderson United Church and Hall. Our United Church helps to pay the hydro and oil bills at this Township Hall- making us partners in our community. So set Oct. 21 aside for this pre-Christmas bash and opportunity to visit and be sure to bring a chair. The rain date is Sun. Oct. 22- following church from 10 – 2.

Thanks to virtual reality, our Pine Meadow people took a trip to Paris and never left home. Some folks shared their memories of past visits and all enjoyed french pastries while reminiscing. Another celebration honoured Merritta’s 105th birthday-congratulations indeed. Also their newest volunteer is Finn - a charming local poodle type dog who brings joy to one and all.

It was like old home week to visit with Ronnie Peterson and enjoy his freshly extracted honey.

Deepest sympathy to the family of the late Kylen “Gifford” White, a student at North Addington Educational Centre (NAEC) who died in a motorcycle accident this past week. Students and staff gathered in the school parking lot to remember, grieve together and create a journal of memories for Kylen’s family to cherish in the difficult years ahead. Kylen loved riding his dirt bike, motorcycle, snowmachines and he will be severely missed by all who knew him.

Deepest sympathy to Natasha Bandy of C-4 Country Convenience in Arden in the loss of her partner Larry Birney. An open mic benefit that welcomes all musicians will happen this Sat. Aug. 12 at the Arden Legion from 1- 5 and then on Sat. Aug. 27 Larry’s life will be celebrated at the Arden Legion from 2 – 4.

Plevna
by Rhonda Watkins

Community member Sheena Whitworth had an interesting story to share with everybody!  At her place on Big Gull Lake,  she had a bear on her deck last month. Yep, it poked its big  furry head right in through her kitchen window screen to say hello! The window was open and the smell of Sheena's delicious bread on the counter must have wafted outside and was just too tempting for the big fella to resist! Sheena screamed and it must have been a doozy because the bear ran away and Sheena was able to get her window closed. Moral of the story; bears are around and looking for food, so be cautious!

St. Kilian's Church would like to thank everybody who stopped by their Bake Sale and helped to make it a huge success last Saturday! They were sold out by 12:30 and were very grateful for all the support!! Please circle your calendars for their next Chili and Bake Sale on September 23rd!

Our Community Fish Pick Winner this week is 6 year old Finn H. who used a worm harness to catch this beautiful 8.6lb 34" long Pike on Mississagagon Lake!! WOW!! Congratulations Finn!!

Tremendous thanks to the 28 people who came out to play Euchre last Tues Aug 1st to help support the Holy Trinity Anglican Church! $176.50 was raised to help pay for the hydro bill, insurance costs, lawn mowing and other monthly expenses. This is such a lovely little church and it would be so nice to see it maintained to its full potential for generations to come. Sitting in service a couple weeks ago, I admired the beautiful windows donated by the various local families in memories of their loved ones. It is really special! I also stood on a hump in the floor that could use some repairing and thanks to our weekly Euchre game,  hopefully it can happen in our future! Congratulations to our BBQ prize winners!! Chris H. must have had a horseshoe in his pocket because he won high score with 105 and most lone hands with 6. He shared one of his prizes with Sandra W. for getting the next most lone hands with 5. Anne W. went home with a brand new delicious bottle of barbq sauce for the low score consolation prize that night! Thanks to the Maga Yard Sale at 1142 Overton Road, we have an air fryer as one of our big gifts this Tuesday at the Clar-Mill Hall! Somebody is going to be very happy this week!! Games start at 7pm, so if you can arrive a few minutes early to find your seats, it would be greatly appreciated.

Our first hall volunteer meeting last Thursday was a great start! Thank you to everybody that turned out to brainstorm and begin our fun Plevna Hall community journey! We voted on our new name and unanimously decided that we couldn't improve on perfection. Everybody voted to keep The Clar-Mill Community Volunteers as our name. Although we did not officially vote on the regularity of our meetings yet, we decided to meet again Thurs Aug 17th at 6:30pm to go over duties of the elected positions, discuss a possible Constitution set up for the group and review our goals. Hopefully you can join our group to meet new people, have fun and make a difference!

Did you know that not only can you get your tarot card reading from our Community local Melanie, you can also visit Liz; the esteemed tarot card reader this week  at the Shamrock Bakery to do readings "by appointment" or "by chance"  from Tuesday through Sunday. For more information or to reserve a spot, you can call 438 922-9564.

You are invited to a humongous downsizing multi-family yard sale Sat, Aug 12 8-4pm and Sun, Aug 13 8-2pm at 9268 Road 509! There will be something for everyone with household items, tools, clothing and crafting items!
