Happy belated anniversary to Connie and Boyd Tryan who celebrated their 47th anniversary last week. Such a lovely and caring couple.

We were saddened to here of he passing of Marcel Giroux last Friday. He was a great man and was involved in so many community projects.

Thanks is sent to the volunteers and participants who participated in the Canoe Safety Course sponsored by the Kennebec Rec Committee.

The Arden Legion is holding a “Paint and Sip,” Saturday, July 29 - 1pm to 4pm. There will be 6 different sign options to choose from, with the wooden blanks, paints and brushes included. This weekend! Please join Battersea United Church for its annual summer fish fry and strawberry social! Everything is homemade and delicious… This fun community event is from 5 to 7pm on Saturday, July 22 at the church. Tickets are $20 per adult and $10 for kids 12 and under.

Chris Murphy’s monthly concert continues at Battersea United with a matinée concert at 2pm on Sunday, July 23. This will be the last chance to see him in person (in Ontario at least) until September, as he is headed to Newfoundland for an artist residency on Fogo Island during the month of August. The theme for this month is “Songs from Newfoundland”. A freewill offering will be collected to go towards Battersea United Church.

The next South Frontenac Music in the Park is on July 29th at Gilmour’s Point in Battersea with Dewy Roadkill. The last one will be August 19th at The Point in Sydenham with Tyler Brett Forkes. All shows are from 1pm – 3pm, they are free, and everyone is welcome!

The South Frontenac Lake Ecosystem Advisory Committee is pleased to present its first annual forum for lake associations and residents interested in lake health: Keep Your Lake Healthy. The forum will take place on Wednesday, July 26 at the Sydenham Library Community Room from 6:30 – 8:30pm. RSVP is required. Email This email address is being protected from spambots. The Lions Farmers Market continues every Saturday. This week we will have lots of vendors and our Lions Canteen with not only have our now famous Eggers, but delicious home baking and more turkey pot pies. 10-1pm.

Remember that tomorrow, July 21, is the Ontario Parks Healthy Parks, Healthy People Day which gives you free day access to provincial parks. What a great way to beat the heat!!

This Sat. July 22 the Lions Club of Land O’ Lakes host a Mike Mundell fish fry supper at their hall with all the fixings for $20.00 a person and the proceeds aid community projects. Dine-In or Take-Out are available and info/tickets are available with Lion Debbie 613-921-3015.

The three United Churches of Arden, Henderson, and Mountain Grove are partnering with Woodland Priestess to offer a Youth Garden Day this coming Tuesday, July 25th from 1-3pm to explore, create, and discover together. Youth will be hearing stories about creation, planting and understanding our own gardens, and discovering the different plant friends that surround us. All youth are invited to meet for the event at Arden United Church on July 25th at 1pm.

All roads led to Harlowe as last Saturday featured Ol Tyme Fiddlers and this Sat, July 22 offers Open Mic at the Harlowe Hall from 1- 5pm. Entertainers cost $2.00 and the public is $5.00. As well yummy (in the tummy) food is available to purchase on site. Folks report having a real hoot at these events.

Deepest sympathy to the family of Marcel Giroux of Sharbot Lake who taught so many in our area as an educator at the former Sharbot Lake High School. Marcel will be remembered for his kindness, love of God and family, and ability to organize and get tremendous results for the church, school and community. “Well done good and faithful servant!”

Tay Valley Township is re-launching its Legacy Farms Program as part of its 25th Anniversary!

Farms in the Township that have been in the same family for 100, 150 or 200 years (as of the date of application) are eligible for legacy farm designation. Approved legacy farm owners will receive an official certificate recognizing the award and, optionally, a sign.

The Ompah Community Centre Association Annual General Meeting was held last Saturday.  The President's, Financial and Committee reports were shared along with upcoming events for the year.  Two of the five director positions were open.  Katie Worden and Marily Seitz were acclaimed.  Questions and suggestions were made about possible events for the future.

The House and Garden Tour will be held on Wed., July 26.  Anyone is welcome to join this free event.  Meet at the hall at 1 and carpool to visit two very different homes and gardens.

We are sad to hear of the passing of Ralph Sutherland.  He died at age 97.  He was an energetic lover of the outdoors with a keen interest in local and world events.  Our condolences to the family.

We are also sad to hear of the passing of Marcel Giroux.  He taught my children at Sharbot Lake High School and was involved in almost everything happening in Sharbot Lake.  Our condolences to Pam, the boys and the rest of the family.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Marcel Giroux, thinking of the family at this time.

Congratulations to Central Frontenac’s Under 9 team on a great season. They had their year end tournament this past weekend. Thanks to parents and coaches for stepping up to keep our children playing.

This weekend the U11 team plays at Parham for their year end tournament. Good luck to all involved. With this District # 4 Recreation Committee is looking for help in the canteen - if you are looking for a job to do in the evenings and some weekends, we would love to hear from you!!

We are extremely happy to report that our call out about someone losing their cockatiel has been answered!!! Iris was reunited with her family last Tuesday after getting out on June 19th and making it to GREC on June 21st!!! Thank you to everyone for getting the word out and to Haley Rose for keeping Iris safe! What a happy ending!

Next week in baseball we have the Grasshoppers starting their year end tournament on July 25 with games in both Sharbot Lake and Parham at 6:30 then they will finish up on July 29 in Parham.

We also have the U15 team playing on Thursday July 27th at 630 in Parham.

The next Township Council Meeting is Thurs July 20 at 5pm at the Township office (6648 Road 506) in the Council Chambers. It is so very important that we all stay informed for our Community! It is available on You-tube as well, if you have the data available to watch it. 

So many absolutely beautiful community ladies that we all know and love are celebrating 39th birthdays (wink wink) this week! I couldn't miss out on sending them a little shout out. Happy Birthday to Juliette Bozsik on July 16th, Marilyn Dunham on July 19th and Michelle Ross on July 20th!!! I don't know which fountain of youth you three are drinking from, you guys are absolutely gorgeous! 

When I think of Tuesday nights, the first thing that springs to my mind is EUCHRE FUN!! Last week 40 people gathered for a fun night of laughs, card playing and delicious snacks afterwards! The Holy Trinity Anglican Church would like to thank everybody for the $259.50 donated! WOW!! Lucie S. got the high score prize with 79, Paul R, won the most lone hands prize with 6 and newcomer Pat C. had her night brightened by winning the consolation prize (a new box of energy efficient lightbulbs). Congratulations to all the prize winners!! 

We meet again this Tuesday night! Games start at 7pm, but if you can come a few minutes early to pick your seat, that would be much appreciated!! Lonnie W. has donated an Awesome Fishing Rod and Reel for one of the prizes, so bring your A game!!  Consolation Prize Hint for this week: It's really crappy!

Summerfest is finally here this Sat, July 22nd at the Clar-Mill Hall in Plevna (6598 Buckshot Lake Road), Woohoo!! You will certainly want to mark your calendar for this fun-filled fabulous day! The fun begins at 7:30 in the morning with a delicious Community Pancake Breakfast. Festivities throughout the day include free outdoor music, local craft beer to purchase, Randy the Magician, Falconry, Hay Bale Toss, Axe Throwing, Local Vendors and much, much more! See you there!!

If you have some interesting community event ideas, would like to meet new people, would just like to be a part of the fun behind the scenes, or all of the above, come on out to our First New Community Volunteers Meeting Thurs Aug 3rd at 6:30pm at the Clar-Mill Hall in Plevna! No idea is a bad idea and there will be prizes! We hope you can join us! Many hands make fun light work!!

This August long weekend brings us another fantastic St. Kilian's Church Bake Sake! The Members are busy preparing all their delicious goodies for us to enjoy! Our fish of the week winner is Amy W. for catching a beautiful 16-inch bass July 9th on Farm Lake in Ardoch! At least once a day you will find Amy on the dock casting her line in to see what's there, so it was nice to see all her time and effort paid off! Just a little tip from Amy for all you fishing enthusiasts, her bait of choice is worms bought from North of 7 grocery.  Congratulations Amy!!

There will be a Drive-In Movie Night on Friday, July 21. This event is hosted by the Verona Free Methodist Church and will be held in the parking lot. The movie will be The War with Grandpa and is generously sponsored by the Verona Community Association. Free admission. all welcome, donations accepted. The canteen will open at 8:15 pm and the movie starts at 8:45 pm. Style Revival will be opening at 8:15 pm during canteen time before the Drive-In Movies all summer long.
