The ongoing Canada Post strike is having a devastating impact on charities that rely on the postal service to deliver much-needed donor contributions. This holiday season, organizations like the Loughborough Christmas and Emergency Relief Committee are feeling the pinch more than ever.
Our committee's donations are down by approximately $10,000 compared to previous years. Many of our loyal donors prefer to mail their contributions, and with the disruption in service, those donations simply aren’t arriving. The consequences are dire.
In South Frontenac, the need has never been greater. Families and individuals are turning to us for assistance, but without sufficient funds, we are faced with the heartbreaking reality that we cannot help everyone. It is a feeling of hopelessness and helplessness that no charity should have to endure during a season meant for giving and hope.
We encourage those who wish to support local charities to consider alternative methods of donation during this difficult time. For our committee, donations can be made online via Canada Helps at www.canadahelps.org. While we recognize that Canada Helps charges a small 4% fee to cover their costs, any amount the community can give is welcome and deeply appreciated. Every dollar makes a difference in our ability to bring hope and assistance to those in need.
