Thank You Fire Chief McDonough

I would like to sincerely thank Chief McDonough of Central Frontenac for his unwavering dedication to securing a new fire truck for our, often-neglected, community.

Following the removal of the fire truck from Piccadilly, residents voiced their urgent need for a replacement. With great concern, Chief McDonough conducted a thorough assessment hoping that a shared services approach to fire services would suffice. Despite the mutual aid agreement with South Frontenac, the significant fire in Verona on June 7th, 2023, highlighted the limitations and risks of this arrangement.

To address the immediate need, Chief McDonough deployed a half-sized truck, which, while well-intentioned, proved insufficient. Recognizing the growing demands of the rapidly expanding southern end of Central Frontenac, Chief McDonough once again approached the township with a proposal to purchase a smaller, yet efficient fire truck for Piccadilly. This solution provides interim support until a more permanent solution is realized.

As we continue to address this critical issue, it is imperative to acknowledge the mayor’s overarching responsibility for the entire township. The construction of a substantial fire station in the southernmost part of Central Frontenac is essential and must be prioritized to support its growth.

I am certain that Chief McDonough will persist in his diligent efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of our community, which stands firmly behind him.
