The news isn’t good. You must have noticed that we have just lived through the hottest summer in recorded history. As a senior, I am deeply concerned about what lies ahead for my grandchildren, ages 6 and 8. They are innocent, but we know better.
Our planet is heating up because we continue to burn fossil fuels. What are our federal and provincial governments doing about this? We know that they are continuing to subsidize big oil companies. We know that they are permitting more oil and gas exploration, more pipelines, and more exports of gas and oil. It’s not fair.
We, on the other hand, want a livable future for our children and grandchildren. What can we do?
On October 1, seniors across Canada will hold climate events in more than seventy municipalities, to call on governments of all levels to take climate action now. Later is too late!
Locally, I will be supporting Seniors for Climate at the gathering along Highway 7 at Wilson Street in Perth. It’s on October 1 from 11:45am to 1:15pm. I hope to see you there.
