Having lived in Sydenham for almost 15 years, I have always enjoyed the various community events that happen here - Santa Claus parade, July 1 parade, fireworks at the Point, Remembrance Day and many other group happenings…
So I was very sad to realize that this Canada Day here in Sydenham was going to be without two of the regular three activities that have always marked this important date - no parade and no fireworks, though the activities at the Point still went ahead.
July 1st was a very quiet day here in the village, and while the Point was busy in the afternoon it was strange not to see Mill Street full of people dressed in red and white watching the parade go past…..And then no fireworks, that we could watch from our deck, and be amazed at the show in such a small community.
I realize that we are part of South Frontenac however it is still important to recognize the vibrant village that we are lucky to live in and be part of, and I hope that we won’t end up being lost in the bigger picture!
