There is a certain irony in M.J. Hudson's assertion that South Frontenac councillor, Ross Sutherland acted inappropriately in appending his title to his recent letter, given that the unelected protesters in Ottawa have been so vociferous in enunciating so loudly their own proclaimed rights to "freedom"; to unfettered speech, including the freedom to spread disinformation; their right to mega decibel assembly, their right to pollute our capital city at all hours of the day and night - all without reference to the comfort of their fellow citizens for whom they claim to speak.
Councillor Sutherland made no claim to speak for the whole of South Frontenac Township that this reader could discern, as M.J. Hudson seems to imply. However, Coun. Sutherland, whatever his politics or views, it must be said, was duly elected by the electorate of his township. In this sense, in sharp contrast to many unelected truck owners in Ottawa, it shouldn't reasonably be argued that Coun. Sutherland was blowing his own horn.
Furthermore, Coun. Sutherland in his letter expressed succinct views about the ideals of community and community values which should be the hallmarks of public discourse at all levels of democratic government and about which he is entitled to speak.
