I have to admit I am a little baffled that the majority of this town (Sharbot Lake) has no idea that there has been an application for a benign sand pit barely south of town to become a full fledged quarry. This small sand pit, at 12854 Road 38, across from Seed to Sausage, currrently has a permit to remove 20,000 tons of material per year. The new request is for re-zoning to allow for a quarry, which will require blasting and drilling, and to remove up to 500,000 tons per year.

Let's look at how this will affect our town. Even at 125,000 tons per year, you would be looking at an additioinal 10-30 dump trucks (going in and of the quarry makes if 40-60) trucks per day! If a large job were to come along, perhaps the new VIA line, the would increase trucks to 80-100 trucks per day or 160-200 coming and going out. So ... on the average 9 hour day that would be a truck every 31/2 minutes.

Does this sound like a good plan for this town? Please thnk this through. There is only until HJanuary 22, 2022 to get your concerns heard. Check the website and get your comments in. Go to this link
