The existential battle between CUPW and Canada Post has progressed to its next altercation point, which is something that was easy to predict back on December 14, 1014, when the workers were ordered back. Not wanting to force a resolution of the dispute, the government of Canada, under Justin Trudeau, simply froze it until May 22nd.

The report from William Kaplan to Minister Patty Hajdu, of the new Mark Carney government, which was delivered on May 15, was intended to provide the context for a deal, but since Canada Post welcomed the report and CUPW did not, a strike has been called for May 23rd.

That means this paper has reached you in the mail, but next week it may not. There may be a deal before then, there may be a strike or Minister Hajdu may intervene.

If there is a strike, we will, reluctantly, do the same thing we did in November and early December. The paper will be delivered to as many locations as we can line up, throughout Frontenac County.
