First there was rain.
Last Friday, Sharbot Lake looked more like a puddle than a frozen lake, forcing the organizers of this week’s snowmobile drag races to delay building and grooming the track for the races. Fortunately the weather turned cold on the weekend and the course was rock hard by Monday,
Then there was that cold wind.
On Heritage Day Monday the temperature hovered around –15 and the wind on Sharbot Lake made it more than a bit nippy. But, the allure of the return of the sno-drags was too powerful for some cold weather to stop. Hundreds of people lined the course and dozens of racers and their families showed up to race.
Once the races started, things progressed without a hitch. Small and larger machines roared down the track throughout the late morning and into the afternoon until all the categories of racing were done. Kudos to the Skills Link program for organizing the event and to the Sharbot Lake Lion’s for helping out.
