Granite Ridge Student Council | Jan 30, 2025
Granite Ridge Education Centre (GREC) Student Council is running full speed ahead this year. After a couple years of a more informal Student Council GREC has revamped and has begun bringing back Student Council positions, and Student Council hosted events.
GREC student Council is an eager team, meeting on a weekly basis and brainstorming new ways to engage and support students. Their main goals are to provide fun opportunities for students and families, give back to the community and spread positive spirit throughout the school. Student Council members also mentor Elementary representatives so that the whole school can be included in events and initiatives when possible.
Some highlights of their efforts so far this school year include fundraising events such as bake sales and canteens for sports games, Halloween costume contest, Grinch Family Movie Night, donating a basket to Festival of Trees, organizing the Christmas assembly, and helping with the Christmas store. Student Council plans monthly spirit days and are currently planning a self-care day before exams.
Looking ahead at their next events, Student Council is planning a fundraiser for the Kingston 4 Paws Service Dogs program that provides therapy dog Mattis one day a week at the school. Student council will be doing a Valentines themed Photo shoot with Mattis to support the program. They are also planning a Valentine’s dance and candy grams.
