In 1979 North Frontenac Little Theatre was formed and the first play “Alice in Wonderland” was performed on the stage at SLHS. Staff and students took part in many of the plays, including Music Man, Anne of Green Gables, Diary of Anne Frank. In the mid 80’s dinner theatre became a fun event for the cast members and the community.

1986 brought with it the introduction of Co-Ed Volleyball to SLHS. Thanks to coach Mark Elliott, they won a county championship. Team members included Paul Harris, Dan Barker, Dave Taylor, Tina Hannah, Richard Harris, Connie Jones, Susanne Cox, Don Webster, Angie Teal, Brent Goodfellow, Jenny Whan, Angus Walker, Liz Steel and Jeff Sergeant.

In 1988 Marcel Giroux retired after 32 years at SLHS as the French teacher, phys-ed teacher, principal, cadet instructor, and guidance councillor. Under Marcel’s direction, the township moved from 14 one room school houses to 4 elementary schools and one high school. He helped many a student find their way upon graduation be it post secondary school, or employment.

Barry O’Connor would become principal at SLHS in the mid 80’s and under his leadership and the slogan “we are a family”, many new things happened. But no matter how busy Mr. O’Connor was he always had time for a basketball game at noon hour or after school. Barry went on to become the Director for Limestone District Board of Education.

Scott Milligan had joined the staff as our music teacher and thought it would be a great idea to have a band. White jackets were purchased from SR department store in Kingston for all the band members. The band would travel to New York City to perform in December. This was the first time for many of the students to ever go out of Canada. But what a learning experience and great fun they had. Mark your calendar for September 16, from 1-5 for the meet and greet to help celebrate the 75 Anniversary of Sharbot Lake High School.
