Every year, Lions around the world meet up at an International Convention and a new International President (IP) is installed to office, and with that, the new Lions year worldwide starts on the 1st of July.
This year the International Convention took place in Melbourne, Australia and our IP is Fabricio Oliveira from Brazil. His slogan for the year is "Make Your Mark". The slogan is always a direction for the 42,000 clubs around the world. So how will our club, the Lions Club of Land O’Lakes, in its new leadership under President Jean-Jacques (Red) Emond Make our Mark?
In fact, what is a Mark? Is it a reflection of the hours of service that our membership contributes to the community? Is it the value of donation? Is the "Mark" measured by the smiles and friendly chatter that we share?
Questions that need to be answered as we move forward with our year. Meanwhile, our club was heading towards the creation of the Land O’Lakes Human Maple Leaf; we were also starting the Catch the Ace Lottery, we are increasing one day of Euchre on Fridays, our Fish Fry and Golf Tournament are in the making, a Ribfest is set for August, service activities towards hunger, childhood cancer, diabetes, the environment, the youth and vision are all on our calendar already.
Now could all or any of that be our "Mark"? I have no answer yet, and so I will leave the question out there, a train of thought in fact.
But, just for this week, a Mark has surely been placed by us all on the 1st of July with the formation of the Land O’Lakes Human Maple Leaf. A day to remember and to be proud of for all.
Till we meet again in a Roar, enjoy the abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables, take calming rides in the lakes, bathe in the sun, and meet us, on Friday the 19th of July for the ever delicious and awaited for Fish Fry.
