Feature Article - April 26, 2007Land o' Lakes artisan guild
On April 4 at a third meeting of Frontenac artisans in as many months, the Land o’ Lakes Artisans Guild became official.Georgia Ferrell, a polymer clay artist and resident of Godfrey, has been appointed as interim chair of the fledgling organization. Although Ferrell has facilitated the meetings and so far appears to be leading the charge for a formalized group, a number of artisans have come forward to help. The guild has also received support from the Township of Central Frontenac Economic Development Committee, which has offered free meeting space until year-end to help the group get started. Artisans who attended Wednesday’s meeting were pleased to be moving forward. After the appointment of an executive committee, which included a treasurer, several members were prepared with their cheque books to make the $50 payment towards annual dues. With the group already planning a summer show, a website, a brochure, and establishing committees to investigate spaces for displays, retail, workshops and shows, the hope that an area gallery may one day be established seems a giant step closer to reality.
