Feature Article - August 30, 2007Riena finds safe harbour for winter
The remarkable sail boat that Johnny Bron built is now on private property, where it will stay for the winter.
Bron spent 11 years building the 60ft. Reina, and last month was in the process of moving it to the Narrows Lock from his home on Road 38, when he was prevented from continuing. Although he has been able to confirm that permits are not required to move the Reina, he has missed the opportunity to sail to the St. Lawrence because the water levels on the Rideau Canal are now too low. Reina will be launched next spring.
The boat has been sitting on the side of the Crow Lake Road and was moved on August 11 with the help of six passers-by and two of the original crew. Johnny Bron would like to thank all the people who helped him turn the vessel around and get her to her temporary berth.
